This poem is very interesting, the author makes the reader really think. The author is not only talking about the rats who try to hide from the light but the ones who are shooting the rats are depressed and disgusted with themselves. "They hide from the lights". (Bottoms) It also seems that they mask the pain and anguish by drinking whiskey and beer. I enjoy this poem the author is very creative and really utilizes his techniques to paint a picture in the readers mind.
